Course Details:

The Medical Secretary plays a fundamental role in the Health & Social Care sector. She/He is the one who builds a bond between the institution and the customer. A medical secretary’s job is a varied role incorporating dealing with patients and visitors, as well as most other secretarial and administrative duties within the healthcare centre.

 

Course Includes:

130 hours of theory and 100 hours practical application 24 Hours First Aid Courses: Optional

 

Learning Approach:

The course consists of a combination of theory and practical sessions. The practice based assignment will enable the participant to gain practical skills in a work environment. There will be an evaluation of the placement.

Part 1: Hygiene

All concepts in link with environmental issues, external factors, food hygiene, society and hygiene (vaccination, preventive issues)

 

Part 2: Introduction to Medecines

This module is an introduction to basic notions and medical terms that a medical secretary needs to know. It also includes the study of the medical world and demonstrates the evolution of the medical concepts throughout the centuries.

 

Part 3: Communication Skills within a Medical Cabinet

This interesting module deals with the following topics:

  • Communication Cycle
  • Basic Communication skills-different aspects of communication
  • Effective listening
  • Blocks to effective listening
  • Barriers to communication
  • Communication in healthcare setting
  • Open questioning
  • Role of emotion and tone of voice

Part 7: Basic Anatomy & Physiology
  • The various systems in the body & their main organs

Part 8: Computer Skills (Microsoft Office)

This chapter will enable you to master Word, Excel, and other Microsoft application and learn the keyboard You will be trained how to position your fingers on the keyboard and how to become fast at typing in order to attain the speed of 50 words a minute.

Part 10: Health & Social 1

Part 11: Introduction to Pathology

This module will make you understand the predisposing factors, sign & symptoms, investigations and treatment of common disorders: Diabetes, cardio-vascular disorders, mental illness and other psychological disturbances.

Part 13:Techniques of Looking for Jobs

The main aim of this course is to guide you in your job selection. This module teaches you how to compose or create a CV, motivation letter and make you inculcate the required skills when you are going for an interview.

 

Part 14: Clinical Phsycology

Clinical psychology includes the scientific study and application of psychology for the purpose of understanding, preventing, and relieving psychologically-based distress or dysfunction and to promote subjective well being and personal development.

 

Part 15: Health & Social 2

This module proceeds with further phenomena. A sanitary and social approach of the individual towards

  • his/her family,
  • a handicapped person,
  • an aged person,
  • Social ills.

Part 16: Management of Medical Cabinet

This topic will teach you how to assure the management of appointments, stocks, and display posters in waiting rooms. It will also provide you with other elements in link with this concept.

 

Additional Information

The government funding for all vocational courses is applicable to the candidate who is being sponsored by an employer. Hereby, the HRDC will refund 60% of total cost of the course to the employer. This sponsorship deal does not apply to self sponsored candidates.
